Josephine Bonitz is a young German soprano with Swiss roots and she is currently transitioning/moving in between from full lyric into jugendlich-dramatisch repertoire.
Her artistic home is the Romantic repertoire, yet she moves with joy beyond it, from Glucks Music to Songs by Korngold, Schönberg and Messiaen.
Josephine made her Debut this Summer 2026 as Helmwige in Die Walküre by Richard Wagner, with Levi Hammer as Conductor and Anja Kühnhold as Staging Manager at Dramatic Voices Program Berlin. Part of the Program has been the Liederfestival under Prof. Brian Moll, where she sang Ballads by Carl Loewe and Songs by Robert Schumann.
In October 2026 she will perform a Liederabend with Pianist Clara Santacana with Songs from Robert Schumann, Carl Loewe and Erich Korngold.
In November 2026, Josephine will take part in an Opera Matinee, featuring scenes from works by Georges Bizet, Richard Wagner, and Richard Strauss.
The second half of the matinee will showcase operetta duets by Franz Lehár, Emmerich Kálmán, and Johann Strauss, a genre that holds a special place in her artistic heart alongside opera.
Her artistry has been recognized with prizes at numerous international competitions, among them the Bizet Special Prize for Excellent Musicianship, the Gold Prize at the Georges Bizet International Music Competition (Opera/Musical), 2nd Prize at the Amigdala International Music Competition, the Silver Prize at the Ravel Award, and 2nd Prize at Classical Music Stars. She has furthered her artistry in masterclasses & coachings with Prof. Brian Moll, Carol Mastrodomenico, Tanja Baumgartner, Franziska Hirzel, Jennifer Larmore, Ingeborg Danz, and Tobias Krampen.
Raised in an artistic family, with both Parents working as Professional Musicians, Josephine has been classically trained and holds degrees in Singing (Switzerland) and Cultural Management from the University of Basel. Her early stage experience includes the world premiere of Klaus Lang's Der Rote Spiegel in Bonn under conductor Sybille Wagner, The Wizard of Oz at Schauspielhaus Basel under director Niklaus Helbling, and Aida, Carmen, Wozzeck, and Manon at Opernhaus Basel under directors Calixto Bieito and Elmar Goerden.
